Boundless in Brooklyn 48 hour film competition!
I was recently a part of a 48 hour film competition, "Boundless in Brooklyn." I collaborated with my sister, Ona, to create all the audio and visual components of the film. We did not win, however, I was very pleased with the outcome and with how ours stood out as being off the beaten path. The hosts of the competition randomly assigned three things (one item, one location, and one movement) that had to make an appearance in our film. Between the challenges of the inclusion items, the time constraint, and our generally amateur film-making abilities it was quite a whirlwind but also SO MUCH FUN! I find that I really relish these kinds of concentrated creation periods and I look forward to more such endeavors. Below is the film we created - check it out!
GroupSolo makes its first appearance!
Check out the video of the first instillation of the "GroupSolo" project! This version was developed with my original choreography and final staging, and with further choreography/development/manipulation/re-imagination by Jamie Killen, Robin Wilson, Lee Brewbaker and Kerry Yost. Have a look!
Premier of "3 to infinity, part 1" Woohoo!!!!
Hello hello! Vermont DanceFest 2016 was a couple weeks ago and I now have a video for you! After all the fundraising, planning, traveling, and rehearsing, our new piece finally sees the stage! Watch Paul, Tierney, Avi, and myself rock it out (and hold tight for the second half, where things get exciting - note our sharp, business-casual attire :). I know I sound like a broken record, but I cannot say it enough, so, THANK YOU for supporting us!!!
AZULE Residency!!!
The residency was a huge success! Below is a video of one of our final rehearsals as well as some pictures of the space - check it out! Also below is a the basic notation of the structure we used to create the work - if it proves to be too much, feel free to ignore it. I only shared it for those that enjoy the deciphering process :)
The basic idea is that we all started with 3 choices (in this case, 3 movements) and the whole first section is just various permutations of the 4 of us using our three chosen movements. Then we added an option by giving each movement 3 directions it could face, giving us a total of 9 choices (3 directions for 3 movements). So, the second section is various permutations of our 9 choices. From there we slowly added “tangent” phrases for each direction of each movement. In short, the amount of material we had to work with and the number of different permutations that existed continued to grow throughout the process. This video is a short of sped-up recap of each of the sections - you will not quite see the whole piece but it will give you a good sense of what we are doing. The first three sections are in silence, and then the music kicks in. Enjoy!

Step 3: make 3 eight count phrases - one for each direction of movement A

3.2 APTM do A1, AM go on to A2
