In the Fall of 2014 Marly became the newest recipient of the Vermont Artists’ Space Grant. She was awarded a 10 week period and 60 hours of rehearsal space to develop a dance piece that investigates the versatility of the body.
Spieser-Schneider’s dance project uses precise, rehearsed material that will be manipulated by chance interactions between dancers, the individual, and the space. The body’s ability to recall and replicate—as well as maneuver and improvise—is shared through an experimental process.
Spieser-Schneider explains, “My intrigue lies in the innate, functional movements that define us as human as well as the many varied physical skills we are able to practice and hone. Sometimes even more fascinating are our blunders, missteps, miscalculations, and how we adapt them.”
